Of the many millions of people who watched Diana's emotional funeral on television, few could fail to be moved by her brother's poignant words as he spoke about his sister, her family, her life and her work.

Charles Edward Maurice Spencer is the son of Edward John, 8th Earl Spencer, and his first wife, the former Hon. Frances Ruth Burke Roche (later Shand Kydd).

He was divorced from his first wife, (Catherine) Victoria Lockwood, by whom he has four children, including the current Viscount Althorp, Louis Frederick John.

Charles, Earl Spencer subsequently married Caroline Hutton Freud, by whom he has a second son, Edmund Charles.
